For Immediate Release - May 17, 2009 Theatre Ontario Announces Festival 2009 Award WinnersTheatre Ontario presented fifteen awards to amateur theatre artists from across Ontario at Theatre Ontario Festival 2009, held in Ottawa, Ontario. Adjudicator Chris Worsnop chose Rabbit Hole, presented by Blackhorse Village Players (of Tottenham), as the Outstanding Festival Production. They received the Elsie Award. Five other awards were presented to Rabbit Hole. Harry Lavigne received the Outstanding Director award; Chandra Mulder received the Outstanding Performance by a Female award for her performance as Becca; Nicolino De Francesco was awarded Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Supporting Role for his performance as Jason; Jo-Anne Pulfer received Outstanding Performance by a Female in a Supporting Role for her performance as Izzy; and the company received an Adjudicator's Award for ensemble work. Seven awards were presented to Peterborough Theatre Guild's Twelfth Night. Brian McDonald received the award for Outstanding Performance by a Male for his performance as Feste; Eric Jackson was awarded the Perry Short Award for Set Design (which provides a scholarship to the Theatre Ontario summer courses); Megn Walker received an Adjudicator's Award for "outstanding performance by a youth" for her performance as Viola/Cesario; Howard Berry and his crew received an adjudicator's award for outstanding costumes; and the company received awards for Outstanding Visual Presentation, Outstanding Coordinated Production (chosen by the Festival Stage Manager), and an adjudicator's award for "fast, entertaining scene changes." Theatre Sarnia's production of Night Sky received the award for Outstanding Technical Achievement for its sound design and projections. Gore Bay Theatre's production of Half Life was presented with an adjudicator's award for "special moments" for Shannon McMullan as Clara, and David Edwards as Patrick.
