For Immediate Release - May 7, 2009 Theatre Ontario Invites Ottawa-Area Professional Theatre Community To Join Us For Mixer And WorkshopsTheatre Ontario is inviting the Ottawa-area professional theatre community to join us for a mixer in the Micaela Fitch Board Room at The Arts Court (2 Daly Avenue) on Friday, May 15 at 4pm. We will be discussing how both Theatre Ontario (as well as our partner Equity Showcase Theatre) can better serve the area's professional theatre community. Following the mixer, Theatre Ontario will offer a special edition of its popular workshop Self-Start: The Basics Of Producing at 5pm. If you want to do a show but have never produced before, and if you want to know what questions to ask first, this session is for you! The workshop will be facilitated by Katherine Grainger, a member of the Theatre Ontario Board of Directors. Katherine is the Artistic Producer of Cow Over Moon Children's Theatre, and has worked as part of the artistic teams at the Canadian Stage Company and Harbourfront Centre. She will be joined by local Ottawa Producer Judi Pearl. This workshop is designed for individuals thinking of starting a theatre company or producing a show; and gives you the opportunity to ask questions and try out ideas, discover the questions you need to ask and answer, learn to organize your thinking and planning, work on scheduling and budget considerations, and learn about available resources and services. It is free to members of Theatre Ontario, and $25 for non-members. Advance registration is required. To register for a workshop, email info@theatreontario.org or call 416.408.4556 x.10. Prior to our workshop, The Magnetic North Theatre Festival is offering Ottawa theatre professionals a more advanced workshop on touring and producing on May 15 from 1-4pm at the NAC’s Rehearsal Hall A. It will be led by Naomi Campbell (Toronto) and Judi Pearl (Ottawa). They will address the realities of touring in Canada and abroad, and how to start making that happen for your company. They will also introduce Magnetic North's Industry Series and share some tips on how to make the most of it. Fee: $25.
