This is an Advanced Scene Study course with emphasis on covering a different script every day. Come and challenge yourself in a way never before.

Here are the scripts that will be used and the emphasis for each script: The Crackwalker by Judith Thompson, and a sense of place; Private Lives by Noel Coward, and the deceit of time; A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare, a little touch of Shakespeare in the night; An Inspector Calls by JB Priestley, and the power of suspense; a Norm Foster script and the surprise of the ordinary.

Experienced is required.  Submit resume with application.

This course is being run as part of Theatre Ontario's Summer Theatre Intensive 2010

Course Instructor

Cheryl Ewing Christopher Newton is the Artistic Director Emeritus of the Shaw Festival. He was Artistic Director for 23 seasons from 1980-2002. In the seventies he was Artistic Director of the Vancouver Playhouse where -- with the late Powys Thomas -- he founded the Playhouse Acting School. In the sixties he was the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre Calgary. Christopher Newton is an actor -- Shaw, Stratford, New York etc. -- a director and a writer. He is the recipient of many honours including seven honorary degrees, the Governor General's Award, the Molson Prize and the Order of Canada. He has recently directed Love's Labour's Lost at the George Brown Theatre School and will direct John Bull’s Other Island at The Shaw this season.

Course Suitability

Suitable for intermediate and advanced actors. Acceptance will be based on resume.
