Christopher Newton is the Artistic Director Emeritus of the Shaw Festival. He was Artistic Director for 23 seasons from 1980-2002. In the seventies he was Artistic Director of the Vancouver Playhouse where -- with the late Powys Thomas -- he founded the Playhouse Acting School. In the sixties he was the Founding Artistic Director of Theatre Calgary. Christopher Newton is an actor -- Shaw, Stratford, New York etc. -- a director and a writer. He is the recipient of many honours including seven honorary degrees, the Governor General's Award, the Molson Prize and the Order of Canada. He has recently directed Love's Labour's Lost at the George Brown Theatre School and will direct John Bull’s Other Island at The Shaw this season. |
