Theatre Ontario Seeks Board Members For 2012-2013
Theatre Ontario is seeking individuals to serve on the Theatre Ontario Board of Directors who are committed to assisting Theatre Ontario in developing and supporting theatre practitioners across the province, by providing resources, networking, training, and advocacy.
The Board also acts as an advocate with the provincial government and the municipalities for issues affecting theatre and the arts. Board members are expected to participate in Board meetings (usually held four times a year at our Head Office in Toronto), to participate in at least one Board committee (minimum of four meetings a year, not necessarily in person), and to engage in generating revenue (from fundraising, sponsorships, and memberships) on behalf of the organization.
Nominations for Election to the Board of Directors must be received at the Theatre Ontario office (215 Spadina Avenue, Suite 210, Toronto, Ontario, M5T 2C7) by March 28, 2012 at 5pm, which is at least forty-five days before Theatre Ontario’s AGM.
Theatre Ontario’s 2012-13 Board of Directors shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). Board members serve two-year terms for a maximum of three terms (six years.) The Board of Directors is made up of fifteen individuals.
Five of the fifteen positions on the Board are appointed by the community theatre regions. Three were appointed to two-year terms beginning in 2011 and are returning to the Board in 2012:
- Sara Mackie (Thunder Bay) – Northwestern Ontario representative.
- Helen Landry (Sudbury) – QUONTA (northeastern Ontario) representative.
- Cam Lund (Newmarket) – Association of Community Theatres—Central Ontario representative, current Vice-President, and current Chair of the Community Theatre Committee.
Two will be appointed to two-year terms beginning in 2012. Incumbents are:
- Mark Mooney (London) – Western Ontario Drama League representative and current Secretary of the Board.
- Andy Trasuk (Cornwall) – Eastern Ontario Drama League representative.
Ten of the fifteen positions on the Board are elected “to reflect the mandate to ensure regional representation and representation from the professional and educational theatre sectors, as well as any special expertise the Board may require from time to time.” Three Board members were elected to two-year terms beginning in 2011 and are returning to the Board in 2012:
- Emma Mackenzie Hillier (Toronto) – theatre artist and administrator
- Deb Sholdice (Clinton) – General Manager, Blyth Festival
- Ken Stephen (Woodstock) – retired teacher and community theatre practitioner
Seven positions shall be elected for the 2012-13 Board of Directors. Barry Freeman (Toronto), John Goddard (Toronto) and Tabitha Keast (Toronto) who were appointed to the Board after the 2011 AGM are standing for election to two-year terms. Michael Grit (Richmond Hill) and Debra McLauchlan (St. Catharines) are not standing for re-election. Julianne Snepsts (Picton) and Brian Van Norman (Waterloo) are term-limited and cannot stand for re-election.

PART 2 of the nomination form must be completed by the Nominee.
With the completed Nomination Form, please include a résumé of the Nominee, a 100-word biography of the Nominee for publication, and a 100-word statement of why the Nominee wishes to serve on the Board of Directors and how the Nominee would support the Mission of Theatre Ontario as a Director.
