Dennis Johnson


Dennis Johnson is an educator and director with twenty-five years experience as an adjudicator. He holds an M.A. in Educational Drama and has studied theatre in Ontario, New York, California and England. A wide-ranging teaching career includes Dramatic Arts teacher qualifications courses for U. of T. and Brock University. 
He was head of the drama program at The Guelph Collegiate for 23 years.

Dennis has also been active in community theatre for over thirty years as an actor, director, producer and set designer for all major theatre groups in Guelph - the Road Show Theatre, the Guelph Little Theatre, Royal City Musical Productions and Theatre Guelph. Recent directing credits include Staff Room (Joan Burrows), The Merry Wives of Windsor (Shakespeare) and Schoolhouse (Leanna Brodie) at the River Run Centre in Guelph.

Dennis Johnson has served on the Education and Summer Courses committees of Theatre Ontario. He worked for nine years on the executive of CODE (the Council of Drama in Education - Ontario’s professional association of drama teachers) three of them as President. Dennis also spent three years (2008-2011) as Community Theatre Coordinator for Theatre Ontario.

As a director and actor, Dennis has been adjudicated and has organized festival adjudications many times. He has been associated with the Sears Ontario Drama Festival for forty years as a director and festival coordinator, and has adjudicated at both the District and Regional levels.

Since 2002, Dennis has adjudicated for the Association of Community Theatres Central Ontario (ACT-CO) in all three categories – Comedy, Drama and Musical Theatre. He has also been the travelling Preliminary Adjudicator for WODL three times and has adjudicated the EODL Spring full-length drama festival. In 2013, Dennis co-chaired the WODL Festival for the Guelph Little Theatre, and will do so again in Sesquicentennial year – 2017.
