Where To Begin
Initiating
a health and safety program at your
theatre can seem like a daunting task. However, there are some
basic steps you can take to get your Board of Directors, staff and volunteers
to support and understand the importance of a safe working
environment.
Suggested Health and Safety Commitment Policy (PDF file) This
document is a starting-place for your Board of Directors. The Board should
adopt a health and safety policy, and this policy will need to be
re-approved annually.
Suggested Theatre Manager's Pre-Season Checklist (PDF file) This

beginning of the season. Topics include policies/procedures being update,
systems inspected, traning conducted and forms updated.

your volunteers, staff, your board and yourself from serious penalties such as
fines, jail, law suits, cease work orders and/or loss of business.

Theatre Manager's Guide to the Ontario Building Code (PDF file) This
guide serves as an introduction to the Ontario Building Code and its
implications for theatre groups. This will apply to any group who
owns or rents a theatre space and especially those considering the design,
construction, demolition or renovation of any building or part of a
building for theatre purposes.
Emergency Contact List and Emergency Contact List Internal (Word
file) The Emergency Contact List can be posted with the phone numbers
of all your local emergency services. The Emergency Contact List Internal
is used by stage management or front of house supervisors to contact
particular management after safely dealing with particular
emergencies.
Emergency Contact Information (Personal Health Information) (Word
file) This voluntary form is great for theatre workers to fill out. In
case of an emergency, this information is given to a medical professional
or hospital to assist with the injured's medical needs.
