Teaching Drama to Children and Youth - Building Your Toolkit with Andrew Lamb

Theatre has a unique ability to allow young people to open up, branch out, and step into new and exciting roles. This course is specifically designed for anyone looking for practical and fun ways to teach drama to children and youth. During this course participants will learn various drama exercises for young people ages 5-18 that explore character development, improvisation, movement, new play creation and ensemble building among others. Participants will be encouraged to share their own warm ups, exercises, drama games to ensure everyone has a robust toolkit to educate young people with confidence. Please note that participants will be asked to engage in some drama exercises as if they are the intended youth age group. So join us this summer as we look at teaching some seriously fun lessons!
Meet the Instructor...
Andrew Lamb is the Artistic Director of Roseneath Theatre and Theatre Awakening in Toronto. A graduate of Concordia University, Andrew trained as a director with Mike Alfreds at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre in London, England and was part of the 2009 Director's Lab at the Lincoln Center Theater in New York. Andrew has worked as an arts educator for Tarragon Theatre, Soulpepper, the Canadian Stage Company, the Sears Ontario Drama Festival and the Drama School at Young Peoples Theatre. Selected directing credits include: Ladies and Gentlemen Boys and Girls, Birds of a Feather, Outside (Roseneath), The Money Tree, La Maleta - The Suitcase (Roseneath/US tours), Don't Talk to Me Like I'm Your Wife (SummerWorks), In This World (Roseneath/Tarragon) - Dora nomination for Outstanding Direction, Dib and Dob and the Journey Home (Roseneath/NAC), The (Post) Mistress (Thousand Islands/Neptune/Ship's Company), Driving Miss Daisy (Stirling Festival Theatre), BURIED (Next Stage), My Mother’s Lesbian Jewish Wiccan Wedding (Mirvish/Fringe Festival) and In Darfur (SummerWorks).

Participation in these courses is for those 16 years of age and older (participants under the age of 19 will require a waiver signed by a guardian).
