You Got the Part! Audition and Rehearsal Techniques for the Actor

You got the audition, now what?  This course is specifically designed for Intermediate and Advanced stage actors seeking to challenge themselves and discover new skills.  It’s a practical hands-on exploration of the craft of acting, from the first audition to the last rehearsal.  Some techniques in the practical aspects of acting will also be explored, including concentration, collaboration, sense memory, and exploring truthfulness, observation, and communication.  Over the course of the week, participants will have the opportunity to explore scenes from plays, to have mock auditions, and to discover and share warm-ups.

Prerequisite: A desire to learn some practical skills for the audition room, the rehearsal hall, and the stage.

Acceptance by resume.

Instructor

Thom Currie

Thom Currie has enjoyed a 25-year career as an actor, director, playwright and producer.  Originally from New York, Thom has appeared on stage on both sides of the Atlantic, performing in cities such as Paris, London, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Brussels. Since settling in Toronto, Thom has worked steadily in theatre, film and television, both in English and in French. Thom has worked in theatres across Canada, including Victoria Playhouse Petrolia, Sudbury Theatre Centre, Stage West (Calgary and Mississauga), Theatre In The Park, The Georgian Theatre Festival and The Showboat Festival Theatre, among many others.

Thom’s directing credits include over forty productions, including Back In 59, They’re Playing Our Song, Mending Fences, 2 Across, Mama’s Country Record Collection, Peter Pan, Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks, Sexy Laundry, Urinetown, The Owl And The Pussycat, Crazy For You, A Bench In The Sun, Looking, and Sitting Pretty, in addition to over fifty productions for young audiences. Thom was the Founding Artistic Director of ReallyLittleTheatre, an international children’s theatre. Thom was also Artistic Director of Showboat Festival Theatre and The Georgian Theatre Festival.

As an actor, some of Thom’s favourite roles have included appearances in productions of The Foursome, Perfect Wedding, Man of LaMancha, Come Blow Your Horn, The Glass Menagerie, Lawrence And Holloman, Storm Warning and The Love List. In addition to writing the jukebox musicals, POP! Goes The Sixties, Back In ’59 and Mama’s Country Record Collection, Thom has written 15 musicals for young audiences, which have been performed across North America and Europe.

Thom has also lectured at University of Toronto, Scarborough, and works as an adjudicator for ACT-CO/Theatre Ontario.
