The 2018 Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is excited to be presenting Emergence 2.0 on October 15, 2018.

In partnership with the Siminovitch Prize and The Second City, the YAC is excited to bring a day focused on advocacy and mentorship for youth. During the afternoon, young artists from across Ontario are invited to meet other youth in theatre and engage in discussion.

What is Emergence 2.0?

Emergence 2.0 is a two-part event that will consist of the following:

  1. Advocating for Yourself: an open panel discussion for emerging artists
  2. Coffee Dates: one-on-one mentorship coffee sessions with an artist

Advocating for Yourself - Our panel discussion will consist of three artists offering their insights and knowledge on the different ways to advocate for yourself for a career in theatre. This will include advocating in terms of equity, representation, contracts and negotiations, and more.

Our Emergence 2.0 panelists are Nikki Shaffeeullah, Sabah Haque, and Kristina Lemieux.

Coffee Dates will allow each young artist to select a mentor of their choice on a first-come, first-served basis. Each will get 20 minutes to connect and speak to their selected mentor. Mentors will come from various artistic backgrounds within the theatre industry, including: directors, actors, creators, playwrights, producers, designers, stage managers and more. Community Building exercises will be held for artists while they are not speaking with a mentor.

Meet our Emergence 2.0 Mentors!

Dinner will be provided for participants.

After dinner, all attendees are invited to the Siminovitch Celebration of the Finalists, where the finalists for the Siminovitch Prize will speak. Panelists will talk about who they are, why they wish to receive the prize and what they will do with the money if they win. This portion of the event will take place at Hart House (7 Hart House Circle, Toronto.)
