Vrenia Ivonoffski

Ivonoffski_VreniaVrenia is the Artistic Director of ACT II STUDIO at Ryerson University and professor of Acting (mask and commedia dell'arte) at George Brown Theatre School in Toronto. She studied acting and physical theatre at the Ecole Jacques Lecoq and with Philippe Gaulier in Paris, France, and directing at Ryerson Theatre School. She has directed over thirty productions from musicals to Shakespeare, and written twelve plays, most of them commissioned research-based theatre works (translating social science research into drama) and collective creations. These works have toured extensively throughout Canada and the U.S. The most current of these is I'm Still Here: Living with Dementia commissioned by researchers at Sunnybrook Health Centre and York University, and her new work Dismissed! on ageism. Vrenia is also known for her stage adaptations of literary work. Her most recent, Leacock Live! was Patron's Pick at the Toronto Fringe Festival, 2010 at the Tarragon Mainspace. She is also a sought-after dramaturg. Her current project, Dinner with Goebbels, written by Mark Leith, was a sold-out success. Vrenia received the Maggie Bassett Award in 2014.
