Carolee Mason has taught in the Theatre Department at Brock University, has instructed practicing teachers and teacher candidates with OISE/UT, and has been the teacher/director of generations of high school drama students, and countless community theatre groups. She has taken her Perth drama students to venues around the province to perform with the Sears Drama Festival, and entertained audiences from around Eastern Ontario with community theatre productions at her home theatre.

A winner of the Michael Spence Award for Educational Theatre from Theatre Ontario, she and her husband Geoff were honoured in 2008 for their community and school theatre work with the naming of the Mason Theatre in Perth, Ontario. They dedicated more than thirty years to bringing thousands of elementary school children from rural and remote communities in Eastern Ontario to this theatre, so that they could experience the magic of live performance. These shows were a training ground for teenage actors and technicians, many of whom have gone on to staff classrooms, university lecture halls, theatres and film sets across Canada.

A frequent workshop leader with the Council of Drama and Dance Educators of Ontario, she has also presented for drama educators internationally, from Chicago to Paris, with the American Alliance of Theatre Educators, and the International Drama and Education Association.

Trained in technical theatre, design, and drama in education, Carolee has worked or studied with the Georgian Theatre Company, the University of Toronto Opera School, the University College Drama Program, the Brock University Theatre Department, and Queen’s University Drama Department.

As an experienced director and adjudicator, Carolee has worked with student and community theatre groups across the province. While she has directed and designed more than a hundred productions with adults, teens and children, she has also adjudicated at Sears Festivals, the EODL Festival, ACT-CO Festivals, and WODL Festivals. A member of the Theatre Ontario Talent Bank of Adjudicators, she is a graduate of its training program.

An award winning educator and author, Carolee has written sections of Ontario’s Ministry of Education Drama Curriculum, and has created a variety of text and online teaching resources for Ontario teachers.
