We are pleased to announce that the regulation contains an exemption for stage productions, provided that there is no consideration given for the use or depiction of the electronic cigarette (i.e. "product placement") and the electronic cigarette does not contain nicotine.

Many theatres have begun using e-cigars, pipes and cigarettes on stage when required. The use of prop vapour devices is healthier and safer for artists and audiences than herbal alternatives. Essentially they are mini-smoke machines that are compliant with government regulations.
We have reached out to the Ministry asking them to make an exemption for the performing arts. This ask has been supported by Theatre Ontario, IATSE-58, CAEA, PACT, and TAPA. The Government is interested and have specifically asked to hear comments from the industry – That’s You!
BEFORE AUGUST 14, 2015, we were asking for your help in THREE ways:
Go to: http://www.ontariocanada.com/registry/view.do?postingId=19122&language=enAnd at the bottom of the page register a comment to the draft regulations, which says "I support drafting regulations to allow for the safe and healthy use of vapour devices in the performing arts." (Online submissions are accepted until AUGUST 27)
Write a brief letter of support from your organization. It doesn’t need to be long, and a template is attached for your use (Word document). Put it on letterhead, fill in a few details, sign it, and mail it off to Minister Damerla, with a copy to Minister Coteau. It doesn’t take long and makes a big impact.
Share this page with your peers across Ontario and ask for their support. If you have contacts in the government, reach out and explain how this bill will impact your company.
This is a small thing, but it is a step forwards in creating a safer and healthier work environment for all of us.
Thanks for your help.
