Directions on Directing with Andrew Lamb
Sunday, August 4 to Friday, August 9, 2019
99 University Ave, Kingston, Ontario.
This course is specifically designed for beginner or intermediate directors looking for practical tools to use throughout their directing process.
During this intensive week, participants will be taken through all aspects of a director’s role on a production. This includes, but is not limited to: the director's responsibilities, research and preparation work, articulating your vision, collaborating with designers, casting your performers, working with production and stage managers, blocking and communication in the rehearsal room, getting past the first stumble through, giving notes to sharpen all aspects of your production and delivering the best show for your audience. Each of these areas will be explored with the notion of giving practical skills and hands on tools for directors to improve and sharpen their work. Participants will be asked to choose a contemporary play to use over the course of the week, culminating in the directorial pitch of your production vision and a rehearsed scene excerpt from the piece. Please note that participants will be asked to act in each other's scene excerpts as part of the course. Participants will also be given opportunities during the week to share exercises and suggestions from their own directorial experience with each other.
Prerequisite: some experience as an actor, stage manager or producer and a desire to grow as a director.
