Dave Carley

Ins _carleydave _212x 331 (2)Dave Carley is a Toronto-based playwright. His plays have had over 400 productions across Canada and the United States and in many countries around the world. They include Writing with our Feet(nominated for the Governor General’s Award), After You, The Edible Woman, Taking Liberties, and Orchidelirium.

Dave is the former editor at the Playwrights Union of Canada (now Playwrights Guild) and, for many years, was the both script editor at CBC Radio Drama and play editor for Scirocco Drama. Most recently, Dave was playwright in residence at the Shaw Festival, where he worked on Kaj Munk, a biographical drama about the Danish playwright, pastor and World War II martyr. He has just completed a new drama about about the death penalty, Twelve Hours. It opened in March, 2014, in Columbus, Ohio.

Marcia Johnson

Ins _johnsonmarcia _212x 142Marcia Johnson was Chair of PGC's Women's Caucus from 2006 - 2010. She has had two OAC Playwright Residencies at Roseneath Theatre and Blyth Festival. received a Toronto Arts Council grant to develop Jumping Ship, based on the lives of her paternal grandparents. Marcia attended the International Women Playwrights Conference in Mumbai with her play Say Ginger Ale which was subsequently produced at the 2010 SummerWorks Festival. Other plays include Late (Obsidian Theatre Company), Courting Johanna(Blyth Festival), and Binti's Journey (Theatre Direct Canada).

Marcia has participated in playwrights' groups at Obsidian Theatre Company, Theatre Passe Muraille and Canadian Stage Company (Bash). She has taken part in two playwriting master classes with Carole Frechette (through the Siminovitch Prize in 2005 and Playwrights Workshop Montreal in 2011) and Tapestry New Opera's Composer-Librettist Laboratory (Lib Lab). Marcia's short opera My Mother's Ring was nominated for a 2009 Dora Mavor Moore award and she continues to collaborate with its composer, Stephen A. Taylor.
