Summertheatreintensive 2016 Scenestudy ExercisesTheatre Ontario is thrilled to be introducing our new Summer Theatre Intensive, partnering with Off the Wall, Stratford Artist Alliance. Through this exciting new collaboration we will join Off The Wall in their home at Factory 163 in the heart of Stratford, Ontario. This year we will be offering intensives over a two week period.

Your Week’s Overview

  • Check in at your accommodations between 3-5:00pm on Sunday.
  • Welcome Dinner on Sunday at Factory 163 at 5:00 pm, followed by a 3-hour introduction to your class and classmates from 6:30-9:30pm
  • Catered meals daily for lunch and dinner including vegetarian fare 
  • Class and assignments throughout the week will follow your instructor’s schedule, with at least thirty hours of in-class instruction
  • Evenings will be made up of class assignments, Playwright-in-Person live play reading, and the option to attend other theatrical evening events (Stratford tickets available until Thursday, June 30)
  • Courses finish: Friday at 12 pm, with a closing luncheon to follow

Explore our New Offerings

This year we are embracing a brand new, choose-your-own-adventure approach to the Summer Theatre Intensive; pick your week, pick your course, pick your digs! By covering each participant’s course fees, course materials, lunch and dinner only, we hope to allow more flexibility for our guests to choose their own accommodations. Participants will enjoy catered lunches and dinners as well as other planned theatrical events throughout the week’s evenings in the hometown of North America’s largest Shakespeare Festival.

A deposit of $200 is required at time of registration. Enrollment is limited. Participation in these courses is for those 19 years of age and older.

SGH Residence: Bright, cheery and tastefully decorated, the Residence offers dormitory style rooms with comfortable single beds. Rooms are outfitted with a small refrigerator, vanity, and sink. Single rooms contain writing desks – perfect for addressing postcards to friends in distant places. Amenities include a lounge on each floor with a kitchenette, separate male and female common washrooms (complete with bathtubs and showers), coin-operated washers and dryer, complimentary parking and a beautiful swimming pool located in the enclosed courtyard. A full breakfast is included with your accommodation in the Stratford General Hospital cafeteria. Bedding and towels are supplied by the Residence. The Stratford Festival Inn is a quaint hotel destination with a full array of amenities to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Share your double room with another participant or book one all to yourself! Amenities include an indoor pool, whirlpool and sauna with adjoining outdoor patio. All rooms are equipped with two beds and a bathroom. Parking and continental breakfast at the Inn’s Anne Hathaway Restaurant come free with your stay!

If you're travelling from Toronto to Stratford, consider taking advantage of the Stratford Festival bus schedule, which offers a round-trip ride from Toronto to Stratford and back at the end of the week for only $28.26!

Withdrawal Policy

Payments are non-refundable after June 23, 2017. Any cancellation must be in writing. Theatre Ontario reserves the right to withdraw any course with full course refund.

Meet our new Partners – Off The Wall Stratford Artists Alliance

During July and August, Off The Wall Stratford Artists Alliance offers a variety of summer courses focusing on backstage production skills. Every learning opportunity is intensive and hands-on, conducted in a working studio where participants receive one-on-one mentorship from Stratford Festival artists. The goal of mentors is to pass along, to the next generation of theatre artists, the knowledge and skills they have acquired through years of professional experience.

Moving to a New Space – Factory163

Factory163 is a hub of creative activity in a heritage brick and timber building located in the Industrial era Factory District of Stratford Ontario. The facility provides SPACE to CREATE to individuals and organizations, for exploration and showcasing of creative and innovative ideas, talent, and skills.
