Call for Board Nominations 2011

2011-2012 Board of Directors

Theatre Ontario's 2011-12 Board of Directors shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on May 21, 2011 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. Board members serve two-year terms for a maximum of three terms (six years.)

PART 1 of the nomination form must be completed by two (2) nominators (who must be Theatre Ontario members).
PART 2 of the nomination form must be completed by the Nominee.

Nominations must be received at the Theatre Ontario office by March 30, 2011 at 5pm, which is at least forty-five days before Theatre Ontario's AGM.

The Board of Directors is made up of fifteen individuals.

Five of the fifteen positions on the Board are appointed by the community theatre regions. Three were appointed to two-year terms beginning in 2010 and are returning to the Board in 2011:

  • Walter Maskel, Gore Bay - QUONTA (northeastern Ontario) representative.
  • Mark Mooney, London - Western Ontario Drama League representative.
  • Andy Trasuk, Cornwall - Eastern Ontario Drama League representative.

Two will be appointed to two-year terms beginning in 2011. Incumbents are:

  • Sheena Albanese, Thunder Bay - Northwestern Ontario representative and current Secretary. (Term-limited - a new representative shall be appointed.)
  • Cam Lund, Newmarket - Association of Community Theatres' Central Ontario representative and current Chair of the Community Theatre Committee.

Ten of the fifteen positions on the Board are elected to reflect the mandate to ensure regional representation and representation from the professional and educational theatre sectors, as well as any special expertise the Board may require from time to time. Four Board members were elected to two-year terms beginning in 2010 and are returning to the Board in 2011:

  • Patrick Gauthier, Ottawa - playwright, director and Artistic Associate of the Great Canadian Theatre Company
  • Michael Grit, Richmond Hill - Theatre Manager of the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts
  • Debra McLauchlan, St. Catharines - teacher of preservice drama education at Brock University
  • Brian Van Norman, Waterloo - adjudicator, workshop leader, director and writer

Six positions shall be elected for the 2011-12 Board of Directors. Angela Rebeiro, of Toronto, and Chris Scholey, of Toronto, are standing for re-election to two-year terms. John Koensgen and Margit Tauchner are not standing for re-election. Anne Mooney is term-limited and cannot stand for re-election. Julianne Snepsts is not standing for re-election as President, and will serve a one-year ex officio term as Immediate Past President and as a sixteenth member of the Board.

Theatre Ontario seeks Board Members who are committed to assisting Theatre Ontario in providing training, information services and resources to theatre practitioners to enhance their knowledge of their art form. The Board also acts as an advocate with the provincial government and the municipalities for issues affecting the theatre and the arts. Board members are expected to participate in Board meetings (usually four times a year at our Head Office in Toronto), to participate in at least one Board committee (minimum of four meetings a year, not necessarily in person) and to engage in revenue generation activities (i.e. fundraising.)

With the completed Nomination Form, please include a résumé of the Nominee, a 100-word biography for publication, and a 100-word statement of why the Nominee wishes to serve on the Board of Directors and what contribution the Nominee would wish to make to Theatre Ontario as a Director.

Nomination forms must be received at Theatre Ontario's office at 215 Spadina Avenue, Suite 210, Toronto, Ontario, M5T 2C7, by March 30, 2011.
