Bruce Pitkin Leaving as Executive Director

The Theatre Ontario Board of Directors regretfully announces that Bruce Pitkin, Executive Director for the past five years, will be leaving the organization at the end of June. "I am very grateful for the opportunity to have led the organization through a period of change in meeting the challenges the theatre sector has faced," said Bruce. His dedicated leadership was respectful, forward-thinking, and will be missed.

During Bruce’s tenure, Theatre Ontario has continued to adapt to the changing landscape of theatrical work and its varied participants. He was constantly seeking new opportunities to enrich our members’ ability to navigate the Ontario theatre landscape, and forging new collaborative partnerships with theatre organizations, sponsors, and the broader arts ecology. At the same time, he was able to improve the visibility of the organization and its ongoing sustainability needs to ensure future success. Bruce will be moving onto new opportunities in the arts service sector and we wish him well.

Boon_Mary_JaneA Search Committee has been formed to find Bruce’s replacement and the Board of Directors has appointed the current Board President, Mary Jane Boon, to serve as Interim Executive Director. Mary Jane will step away from her position on the Board until the Search Committee is able to find the new leader for the organization.

Mary Jane is a Certified Professional Accountant and has held positions as a corporate accountant and financial leader of privately and publicly-owned corporations as well as not-for-profit organizations. In addition to the development of her financial management career, she has been active with community theatres for over twenty years both artistically and administratively. She is a Past President of The Curtain Club in Richmond Hill, and has served as both Treasurer and President during her four years on the Theatre Ontario Board.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, we express our sincere gratitude for Bruce’s outstanding collaborative leadership and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Theatre Ontario will continue its important work to advocate for a vibrant and sustainable theatre community throughout Ontario.
