Welcome Costin Manu

The Board of Directors of Theatre Ontario is very pleased to announce the appointment of Costin Manu to the position of Executive Director.

As a young actor, Costin participated in Theatre Ontario’s Next Generation Showcase and has continued to engage with our organization during his entire career. He has a keen sense of the value of Theatre Ontario in today’s arts ecology. With his impressive background in fundraising, he is the fiscal leader and strategist that we believe capable of building a stronger, more vibrant Theatre Ontario.

"A charismatic leader, Costin's drive, determination and long-standing experience is exactly what we need to usher in a new era at Theatre Ontario. We are thrilled he will join us January 2, 2019," says Interim President Vera Held.

Manu_CostinCostin is a versatile actor, director, teacher and an arts management professional. Over the last 30 years, he has produced over 50 plays and musicals and directed almost as many, from classics to Shakespeare, comedies, farces and dramas. He was the founding Managing & Artistic Director of Victoria Playhouse Petrolia and held the same position at Theatre Cambridge.

Costin’s international work began as Executive Director of the Sandusky State Theatre in Ohio and then as Managing Director of the Gloucester Stage Company in Massachusetts. Back in Ontario, he led the Rose Theatre Brampton’s Programming, Marketing and Development departments for many years, was Manager of Programming and Community Engagement at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre and was Associate Artistic Director of the First Stages Theatre Company in Toronto and Port Hope.

Costin is a former member of the Board of Directors of Third Culture Theatre, a Toronto theatre company producing shows that view the classics through a multicultural lens. He was a member of the Board of Directors of The Foster Festival in St. Catharines and is currently on the Board of the Burlington New Millennium Orchestra.

"I am delighted and very excited with this amazing opportunity to lead Theatre Ontario through its next phase and to work with the experienced and talented staff and Board of Directors,” said Costin. “I became a professional actor, director, producer and artistic director with the help of the programs available through Theatre Ontario. I feel that I’ve come full circle and it is now my turn to give back and provide other young, aspiring artists with the opportunities given me by this terrific organization. See you at the theatre!"
